Munk Productions Ambisonic Ambiences (MPAA) features audio files of durations long enough to cover most situations. There’s always a tradeoff between long durations and download sizes, particularly with 16-channel Wave files. But we don’t want you to run out of audio.
The durations differ in the three ambience types:
Static
Depending on the complexity of the ambience, duration is chosen like this:
- Simple: About 2 minutes
- Complex: Up to about 5 minutes, depending on the ambience itself
In all but a few cases (as noted in the file’s description), the ambiences are directly loopable. So you can extend the duration easily.
Action and Transition
There are no set limits for the duration of these types. It depends solely on the content of the ambience, i.e. how long it takes to complete the action or transition. This means that durations vary from about 30 seconds up to about 15 minutes.
There’s normally a few seconds of “silence” at the beginning and end of these ambiences, where you hear the sound of the location itself. In some cases, this can be used to link to and from Static ambiences (see more about this topic here).
